President Elect: Carwen Wynne-Howells
Carwen became a Soroptimist in 1984 when she was invited to join SI Haverfordwest and District. Haverfordwest is the county town of Pembrokeshire in South West Wales. A pharmacist, Carwen has spent the major part of her professional life working within the National Health Service. She joined the Senior Civil Service when she was appointed the Chief Pharmacist for Wales and is currently the Chief Pharmaceutical Adviser to the Welsh Assembly Government.
Carwen enjoys the theatre, music and travel. She suffers from acute bouts of "islomania" which can be treated successfully by frequent trips to sunny islands, particularly those in Greece. Linguistically challenged, her attempts to learn Greek have been a constant source of amusement to family and friends for several years.
Carwen is all too aware of the need for the organisation to focus on its main sphere of activity – its Programme Areas – and avoid the temptation to "tangle itself up in red tape".
She currently represents SIGBI on the Soroptimist International Strategic Planning Group (SPG) and hopes that the work of this group will enable this to happen. She described the work of the SPG as "challenging but exciting and rewarding. It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the International team influencing the future of the organisation".
During 2007/2008 Carwen hopes to:
- Continue her work with the SPG
- Fulfill her duties as President Elect
- Plan for 2008/2009
- Work with the 2009 Conference Team to ensure that the 75th Conference in Cardiff is one members will remember!
