President: Marguerite Woodstock-Riley
Marguerite
joined the organisation in 1984. She is an attorney-at-law, presently in private
practice specialising in civil litigation, insurance law, personal injury
settlements and family law.
Her interests and activities outside Soroptimism include dance and travel. Marguerite is a member of the Barbados Cancer Society Breast Screening Programme, which successfully raised funds for the establishment of a Breast Screening Centre, and is also a member of the Parent Teachers' Association.
"My intent is to never again have to explain Soroptimism by reference to the Rotary or Lions! The achievements of our organisation in the past have been considerable and I am always impressed and energised at conference when our projects are outlined. Yet many Soroptimists, not to mention non-Soroptimists, remain unaware of the extent of our work.
"Raising and maintaining the profile of our organisation will assist in attracting members, in getting support for our projects, and in our ability to be a voice for change.
"As with advocacy, a good style of presentation is important. However, the real basis for success is the material you have to work with. The enhancement in the quality of club life with a strong exciting membership will ensure the attainment of our goals."
