Update: The Say No to Violence Campaign has now been extended by UNIFEM to run to 25 November 2008. The number of signatories is now close to 200,000 which exceeds by far the challenge grant by the UN Foundation of $100,000 to the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women for the first 100,000 signatures. "It is heartening that nearly 200,000 supporters have signed on to this campaign," said Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation.

Why sign?
One in 3 women and girls may be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in their lifetime.
Greater resources are urgently needed to halt these shameful statistics.
The UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, managed by UNIFEM, supports local initiatives, such as work to prevent human trafficking, assisting survivors of domestic violence or helping to implement laws against rape.
On 22 January, the United Nations Foundation announced a Challenge Grant.
It will donate $1 to the UN Trust Fund for each of the first 100,000 signatures to UNIFEM's "say NO to violence" campaign.
