Our President's Message

Welcome to the SI Stourbridge web site. I trust that you will find the site easy to navigate through and that you are able to find whatever information you are looking for - however small!

I am privileged to have been elected as the 61st President of SI Stourbridge. We are a Soroptimist Club bursting with pro-active and enthusiastic members. These members work well together and fulfil the long tradition of service in all aspects of Soroptimism.

SI Stourbridge has just celebrated it's Diamond year in 2007-2008 and Immediate Past President Su Roxburgh can finally take a well deserved time of relaxation, following her highly successful year which was much appreciated by all Club members. When Su challenged her members to "Enjoy and Achieve" she certainly knew what she was aiming for.

My theme for my year is "Sow the seed and watch it grow...." My speakers are all connected, in different ways, with children - a subject close to my heart as I have a very young family. Emily is 11, Matilda is 3 and William is 2. Of course they are my first and foremost priority so it is appropriate to have a theme based on the generation of the future!

I will support two charities during my Presidential Year. The first is The Birth Abnormalities Research Fund. This is a charity established to fund research into congenital abnormalities in newborn babies and young children. This charity is close to my family's hearts as our 3 year old daughter was born with multiple congenital problems and, without the research this charity is involved in, the medics would continue to be dumbfounded by the problems they are faced with.

My other charity is The George Coller Memorial Fund. Details of this charity can be found on it's own web page. We support this charity as our elder daughter suffers with asthma.

Alongside these two nominated charities, I will also be raising funds for Project SIerra, our organisation's Quadrennial Project for 2007-2011. And for projects locally, nationally and internationally, including the Soroptimist International Benevolent Fund.

SI Stourbridge meets on the first Wednesday of every month (excluding August) for our Business Meeting and on every third Wednesday of the month (again excluding August) for our Speaker/Dinner Meeting. I have a wide variety of speakers attending our meetings, so I am certain that you will find something that appeals to you - even though you may be visiting for the first time.

During my Presedential Year, there will be various social functions to include a French Gourmet Evening, a Harvest Ceilidh and Hog Roast, a Christmas meal with entertainment and a Black Country Evening.

The highlight of the Social programme and our signature event of the year will be a Literary Dinner to be held at the Stone Manor Hotel, Cutnall Green on Friday 28 November 2008.

Any information you require about these events can be obtained from any of our Club Officers or myself.

SI Stourbridge also lobbies on important and topical issues such as cluster bombs and landmine clearance, and the trafficking of women and children and other relevent projects. SI Stourbridge campaigns to alleviate violence against women and continues to support two local women's refuges. We also support the Orchard Centre Project - which provides support and activities for children with disabilities and their carers.

I am proud of my members and I will guarantee that you will find us a very friendly group of like minded ladies. If all this sounds of interest to you, your friends and colleagues why not come along and meet us?
