SI Stafford Projects

Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.

More information is available in the Our Work pages, where you can read more about the current Programme Focus aims and the Quadrennial Project, supported by all clubs in the Federation.

The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Stafford:

Water for India

Our well

In our 60th Year we established a link with SI Jabalpur to bring clean water to deprived villages in their neighbourhood.

We are delighted to be able to confirm that to date we have sponsored 6 wells. Recently a member of our club was able to visit the area, taking our latest donation with her, to see for herself the impact that this initiative has had on the population.

Prior to the installation of these wells, water was a scarce commodity, local people had to walk miles to access clean water. Having this vital resource easily available has transformed the lives of the villagers.

Women's Aid

Stafford Women's Aid has received support from SI Stafford since 1992 when the club took on the project as part of The Royal Anniversary Challenge.

We support the refuge in a variety of ways:-
One of our members with considerable professional expertise in this area sits on the refuge committee.
We regularly take mothers and children on trips during the school holidays.
When families are rehoused we try and help with sourcing furniture and household equipment needed.
Comfort bags are provided to all women entering the refuge which include toiletries and other essential items.

Say No to plastic bags

Under the programme area of environment SI Stafford from time to time carry out environmental audits of members. At the present time we are focussing on the over-use of plastic bags especially in supermarkets.

Members are encouraged to use and re-use bags in natural fibres. Recently we had a stall in the Guildhall Centre drawing attention to the major environmental damage caused by plastic in landfill sites.
