Welcome to SI St Albans and District

Our President's Message

Welcome to the Soroptimist club of St Albans & District.

The club was founded in 1957 and has over 30 members of various ages and occupations.

If you are a woman who is interested in helping your community, making a difference in the wider global community, making friends and having fun, then our club could be the place for you. Our program action work focuses on awareness, advocacy and action on local, national and international issues. We currently undertake service projects in the local area, lobby MPs on topical issues such as human trafficking and United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 (women's role in conflict resolution and peacekeeping), as well as raising funds for local charities.

This year the President’s charity is the Grove House day Hospice in St Albans (see Links). Grove House provides free specialist care and support to people in St Albans, Harpenden and Dacorum whose lives are affected by cancer or another life-threatening illness.

Throughout the year we listen to different speakers on local and national issues, and this year we have speakers on a range of subjects including "Phoenix Holidays", "Hedgerow Herbs" and an update on "The Food Industry" (see Diary of Events for details).
