Our President's Message

Hello and welcome to the website of the Soroptimist International Club of South Shields and District

This is a special year for us at SI South Shields as we are celebrating our 60th birthday. We have lots planned to celebrate; the highlight of which is our Anniversary Luncheon in October where we are fortunate to have many guests both international, regional and local on this very special occasion. Ten guests from SI Norway will be joining us as well as others from clubs in Fareham & Gosport, Cockermouth, Darlington, Sunderland, Newcastle and Morpeth to help us celebrate 60 years of service for local, regional and international good causes.

We at SI South Shields are a small club having less than 30 members but we are eager to grow by attracting more likeminded women. If you are keen in helping your community, making a difference to the wider global community, making new friends and having fun, then SI South Shields is the club for you.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7.30 pm in the Prestige Hotel in South Shields to discuss and plan our involvement in local issues and national and international Soroptimist activities. Visitors are most welcome to any of these meetings. Throughout the year members listen to different speakers on local and national issues. For this special year we have various speakers on environmental issues planned as well as a host of fundraising fun social events.

Each year the presidential office selects a charity for which the club will concentrate its fundraising events. Our charity this year will be Chernobyl Continuity which brings Belarusian teenagers to the UK for respite holidays.
