Welcome to SI Scotland North

Our President's Message

President Janice

Welcome to S I Scotland North's website page. My name is Janice Wilson and I was delighted to become President of this Region at the Harrogate Conference.

"A great attitude does more than turn on the lights in our world, it seems to magically CONNECT us to all sorts of opportunities that were somehow absent before".

This year, I would like to focus on this one word 'CONNECT'. This simple word is used by many companies as a great advertising tool eg. 'Heathrow's fast train link to London is called CONNECT; 'CONNECTED THINKING at Price Waterhouse & Coopers'; and how about 'Coffee Lovers CONNECT'.

I also want to make Regional Meetings popular - a place to meet new friends - a place to meet old friends - somewhere to find out what is happening in our Soroptimist World, and, also to learn something new.

There are seven Clubs in the Scotland North Region.
S I Aberdeen, S I Crieff, S I Dundee, S I Easter Ross,
S I Inverness & Nairn, S I Perth,
and S I St Andrews & District.

My first Regional Meeting in Aberdeen last November was about Women in Scotland. We heard from two women making a difference in the lives of women and children. Our first speaker, a Soroptimist living in The Orkneys, is preparing the way to introduce Soroptimism to the islands. It is hoped that a new Club might be opened there in the near future. Our second speaker, although not a Soroptimist has helped to improve the English language skills of children in Thailand.

In January, the theme for the Regional Meeting was Children and Young People. We heard from a Soroptimist who travelled last year to Sierra Leone with Hilary Kay Young (now our Federation Immediate Past President) and found out first hand how our Quadrennial Project - Project SIerra would operate. Our second speaker, not a Soroptimist, led an exchange visit to Malawi last November. She took with her six seventeen year old girls who had trained as HIV peer educators.

Our March Regional Meeting will concentrate on the Environment with a speaker from 'Trees for Life'.
