SI Preston Projects
Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.

The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Preston:
Homeless Centre
Members provide Christmas gifts for the Homeless centre in Preston on an annual basis via the filling of shoe boxes
Women's refuge
the members provide toiletries and other goods for the Women's refuge centre in Preston on an on-going basis
Millennium Project
Supporting a local housing association in providing garden equipment, Halloween party materials, Christmas toys and party materials for a disadvantaged area of Preston with a housing association who want to ensure that the community is served by the peopl
Preston Child Contact Centre
SI Preston initiated and sought out the following partners: the Central Methodist Church in Preston, Business and Professional Women, Mother's Union, and Twonswomen's Guild - and set up and run a weekly child contact centre in the middle of Preston.
The centre enables non resident parents to have supported contact with their child/ren on a weekly basis. One of the members of SI Preston was instrumental in initiating this porject, working with others. She now co-ordinates the project having weekly contact with solicitors and parents and making arrangements for referrals and visits. The centre is supported by many members of SI Preston (and some husbands) who are both on the Management Committee and are volunteers.
Parkinson's
Members of SI Preston help Parkinson's Society by helping out with teas each month.
Guild Shield
The club present this shield annually to a school or pupils who have undertaken a project within the last 12 months connected with: the environment, community service or fundraising. The winning school receive the shield for 12 months, a small monetary a
This Project was initiated in 1992 the year of the last Preston Guild and will continue until 2012 - the year of the next Preston Guild.
Entry forms are sent to all schools in the Preston area and we have received some magnificent entries over the years with some very innovative projects undertaken by pupils and schools. If you would like more information please contact the Secretay of the club
