SI Norwich Projects

Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.

The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Norwich:

Women Walking for

On Saturday 23rd September 2006 Soroptimists were raising money for the world wide "Project Independence" with a sponsored walk. With the Great Yarmouth Club Norwich members and friends walked for up to 8 miles near Horsey Mere in Norfolk. Amount rais

"Project Independence" is a four year Soroptimist project worldwide to fund raise and give support and training to women in Afghanistan, Rwanda and Bosnia. By 2007 we hope to raise at least $1.2million .

Voices Against Violence Forum

SI Norwich has supported the The "Voices against Violence" Forum run by Norwich City Council since it started.

In the Week containing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women starting 25th of November, Club members were involved in raising awareness of Domestic Violence issues and the work going on in Norwich.

FairTrade Fortnight in Norwich 2007

In March 2006 the Club organised a very successful FairTrade Fashion Show . We manned stalls in Sainsbury and Tesco's supermarkets to promote their FairTrade range and support the FairTrade Fortnight in Norwich between 25th Feb and 11th March 2007
