SI Northern Ireland Projects
Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.
More information is available in the Our Work pages, where you can read more about the current Programme Focus aims and the Quadrennial Project, supported by all clubs in the Federation.
The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Northern Ireland:
Women's Aid
S I of Portadown are seeking to assist Women's Aid in refurbisment of their Centre in Portadown. Members have given a commitment to decorate a bedroom.
This project arose after members listen to a member of staff from the Women's Aid Centre detail the very important work which is undertaken within the home. The members agreed that they should take an active part in this event. It was agreed that the Club would seek to refurbish a bedroom by painting and decorating and supply new curtains and bedlinen. Funding was scarce, so members indicated that they would bring unwanted items to a car boot sale. This first sale was held at the end of June. Due to the wet weather, trade was not very good, but money has been raised to purchase the paint.
