SI Northampton Projects
Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.
More information is available in the Our Work pages, where you can read more about the current Programme Focus aims and the Quadrennial Project, supported by all clubs in the Federation.
The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Northampton:
Inclusion Project
This is our President's Charity for the year.
The project is designed to support children who are excluded from school. The Royal and Derngate Theatres are using music, dance and drama for this project.
Hospital Gardening
The club has been involved for several years in looking after garden areas in Northampton General Hospital.
After giving a badly needed new lease of life to the Stroke Unit Garden we are now doing the same for an area near the Gynaecology department. Both these gardens are used by patients and their visitors in the good weather and also provide something pleasant for patients, visitors and staff to look at as they walk down the corridors.
Moya McVicar, who has a long standing involvement with the hospital (Patients Forum, Community Health Council, Foundation Trust Board Member etc)is the mastermind behind this venture.
Other Clubs' Projects - items wanted
Have you any of these you could donate to help our fellow SI Clubs?
Pens, pencils, T-shirts, shorts, ink cartridges, prescription drugs, old spectacles, used stamps, Tesco Vouchers for Schools, knitting wool, scarves, hats, knitted blankets, embroidery thread, tapestry wool, mobile phones, CDs and DVDs?
Christina Elvin, Our Press and Publicity Officer has a list of other SI clubs who are looking for these items for their projects. Do let her know if you can help.
President's Appeal
December 10th is the President's Appeal. This year it is Restoring Dignity - a project to assist women and girls in Ethiopia who have developed a fistula (vesicovaginal or rectovaginal) after prolonged labour.
Christmas Cards, Donations or both?
Do you need to send Christmas cards to everyone in the Club? Would you rather give a donation to the club to be shared between the President's appeal (Restoring Dignity) and our Club President, Bridget Brown's project (The Inclusion Project)?
Do you think you could do both...send cards to those who would appreciate it most and give a donation instead of a card to those of us you see regularly or who you think would rather you gave a donation for them rather than a card to them. Something to think about this Christmas?
