SI North West England and the Isle of Man Projects

Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.

More information is available in the Our Work pages, where you can read more about the current Programme Focus aims and the Quadrennial Project, supported by all clubs in the Federation.

The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI North West England and the Isle of Man:

Projects overview

North West England is an exciting place to be if you are a woman interested in the kinds of issues that women of today care about.

We support Women's Refuges, Child Contact Centres and work with the homeless through out our catchment area offering practical and financial support. Many of our members volunteer to help out at the Refuges and are members of the various management committees.

The environment is a hot topic here in the Region and Soroptimists are keen to get involved from planting bulbs, to researching the dangers of ragwort on the Isle of Man.

We are involved with International projects usually working with NGOs on the ground. At the moment one Club in the Region is working raising money to help assist with funding for a hospital in the Sudan.

Across the Region we are selling Purple Ribbons to raise awareness of the plight of women and children who are trafficked into this country through the ports on our coastline. The ribbons which cost £1 are an outward sign that people care about the situation that many people find themselves in. All the money raised from the sale goes to UK Human Trafficking Centre in Sheffield.
