SI Midland East Projects
Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.
More information is available in the Our Work pages, where you can read more about the current Programme Focus aims and the Quadrennial Project, supported by all clubs in the Federation.
The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Midland East:
MIDLAND REGIONS RACE FOR LIFE
In support of Federation President Janet’s theme ‘Together We Are Strong’ the Presidents, Presidents Elect, Vice Presidents and Federation Councillor of the three Midlands Regions are doing the Race for Life to raise funds for Cancer Research UK
TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG
Sunday 19th June 2005 11 a.m. on the Loughborough University Campus (1.5 miles from Junction 23 on M1)
The runners (or in our case, walkers) are all women.
We invite you most warmly to join the team and walk with us. You can also sponsor us and/or come along and cheer us on the day.
You can register to join our team of walkers by ringing 08705 1344 314 or online at www.raceforlife.org. In either case, it is really important that you select the correct race (there are lots of races across the country) and that you choose the option to ‘join an existing team’.
Our team is: ‘SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL : MIDLANDS’. You will be asked for the team name and possibly for the team leader’s name, which is Margaret Oldroyd. The entry fee is £8.50. Wheelchair users are welcome to enter the race as are accompanied under 18s. The fee for under 18s is £5.
Once you have registered, you will receive a race pack which includes a sponsorship form and a back label on which you should write the team name. All entrants are asked to wear a Soroptimist Tshirt/polo shirt so that we make the maximum impact. There is no set sponsorship target but all entrants are asked to try and raise at least £50.
Blankets for Kidney Dialysis Patients
The project is part of a nation-wide scheme, promoted by the Cross Stitcher magazine, to make blankets for kidney dialysis patients.
Calling all Cross-stitchers in the Region! We are working with SI Midland Arden and SI Midland Chase on a Programme Action service project that is short, full of impact and very productive!
A pattern for stitching ‘Newton Teddy’ from the ‘Cross Stitcher’ magazine has been sent to all clubs in the three regions.
The embroidered squares were made up into blankets at the ‘Stitch 2005 Show’ at Olympia from 31st March. They will then be donated to the National Kidney Fund to brighten the lives of patients a little.
