SI Lichfield Projects
Each Soroptimist International club identifies the needs of its community, then establishes specific projects to address these needs. All our projects relate to one or more of the six Programme Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights and the Status of Women, and International Goodwill and Understanding.
More information is available in the Our Work pages, where you can read more about the current Programme Focus aims and the Quadrennial Project, supported by all clubs in the Federation.
The projects listed below include some of the local and international issues we research and support in SI Lichfield:
Keyring Services for Lichfield Youth
A local partnership between Soroptimists, Police, Youth Service and Parent Partnership to support young people in Lichfield.
We are just about ready to launch this project that has taken 18 months in the planning. We have been encouraged by the three services mentioned above who want to see a joined up and appropriate response to young people who finds themselves in difficulties in the community. This can often be as a result of special needs, social and emotional difficulties or mental health issues. All these can strike any young person in any family. We are working alongside the services to look beyond the difficult behaviour to the reasons for it. Unacceptable behaviour is never condoned, but an approach that will help a young person take responsibility, make reparation and move forward successfully has to be worth concerted effort.
We will update this site regularly and of course, from our home page, you can email us.

A meeting with Sue Miller of the Parent Partnership Service. A very positive response from Sue who had encouraged us to go ahead with the idea when we had discussed it with her at the beginning.
We were delighted when Sue said she could already think of three families who would be delighted to be part of the project. These are families who want independence for their child but need to know that support mechanisms are in place. We already know the risk factors, the keyring will be a protective factor that alerts services.
Keyring Services for Lichfield Youth
I was able to make a presentation to the Management Board of the Children's Trust today.
I was able to describe the Keyring Project to the service managers. The experience with my own son, Neel, explained how there was a recognition of need and an attempt to find a type of solution. All the services represented work incredibly hard locally to support young people and the Keyring is only necessary as an 'Alert' signal. Any young person carrying it needs a more considered approach.
