Welcome to SI Kings Lynn

Our President's Message

Welcome to our King's Lynn club website.

I hope you wll enjoy reading about our projects, our latest news and our programme of meetings and events through the links on the left. If you would like to become a member or have any questions, please use the Contact link and we will get back to you promptly.

We are always pleased to welcome non-members to our Speaker Meetings. Recently we have had visiting speakers talking about Water Aid, drug abuse, the NORA project and the West Norfolk and King's Lynn Girls' School Trust.

During the last year we have raised money to support The Matthew Project - Past-President Jane Belfield's charity - bought two School-in-a-Box kits for the Unicef appeal in Pakistan and given almost £300 to Water Aid.

Soroptimism isn't all about fund-raising as we are a service organisation as well. We check the tapes for the Talking Newspaper on a monthly basis and provide toiletries for the local women's refuge. We also support a school in The Gambia, set up by one of our members, by collecting knitted jumpers from local ladies and providing the chemicals for the annual dipping of mosquito nets.

This coming year the club's two charities are local ones:

1. Emmerich Court Sheltered Housing, which provides lunches for isolated elderly people and requires help to finance transport to the venue.
2. Different Strokes which supports young stroke victims.

My President's Charity this year is to sponsor a disabled person for a holiday at Park House Hotel (a hotel for the disabled at Sandringham) thus giving their carer a holiday too. One of our members is the manager there and is aware of deserving people unable to afford the tariffs.

Of course, we're not always serious! We also have social events ranging from the Knitters' Tea Party in May to supper at Park House in August. In July we had our Charter Lunch at Sandringham Visitors Centre.

In the autumn our programme takes us into Regional events and discussion sessions relating to the Federation Conference in Harrogate in November. We shall be celebrating Human Rights Day in King's Lynn this year as the Regional President is yet another of our club members.

I hope I have given you a flavour of SI King's Lynn and that you will want to browse through the links on the left of this message to find out more.
