Our President's Message

Welcome to the website of Soroptimist International of Inverness and Nairn.

It has been a great honour for me to be elected President for a second term of office and I will continue to do my very best to take our club from strength to strength. Having served for a year I felt that I was just beginning to get into the swing of things when my year expired, so I have no hesitation in saying that I am now looking forward to the challenge of 2007/08.

During the past year several of our members attended the SIGBI Conference in Gateshead and more recently the 18th SI Convention 2007 in Glasgow. We learned that the Quadrennial Project 2007-2011 is Project Sierra - a family and a future - a 4 year partnership between Soroptimist International and Hope and Homes for Children. The Lasting Legacy Project is to provide clean water and sanitation in Central Mindanao in the Philippines. We were particularly proud when our club member, Scotland North Regional President Pat welcomed the 1500 delegates to Bonnie Scotland at the Opening Ceremony in Glasgow. Now we are all looking forward to the Harrogate Conference in November 2007.

Our Programme Officer Billie is working on the World Literacy Day and the club is also planning a Walk for Peace.

Earlier this year one of our long serving and highly respected members, Margaret Fraser, died in the Highland Hospice. So for this year I have chosen the Highland Hospice for my charity.
