Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI)
This section is: SIGBI Clubs

Welcome to SI Ellesmere Port and District

Our President's Message

President Llinos (Lyn) Parkin

Our members come from a wide area that includes Chester and villages over the border in North Wales.
Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each month at The Quality Hotel, welsh Road/Berwick Road, Little Sutton, Cheshire CH66 4PS. Business meetings alternate with Supper/Speaker meetings.
MEMBERSHIP: Soroptimists are women who work in a cross section of occupations and include magistrates and hairdressers, musicians and secretaries, artists and writers. You are likely to find a midwife and district nurse exchanging ideas with a doctor. Journalists rub shoulders with surgeons and headteachers. We are a group of women from business and the professions who work together to suport and publicise the suffering of women and children both in our local community and in problem areas throughout the world.
We are a service organisation, active at club, federation and international level.
OUR REGION is Cheshire, North Wales and Wirral (there are 21 clubs in our region). Each club holds an annual lunch or dinner attended by members from across the region. Our Federation covers Great Britain and Ireland.
AIM: Awareness, advocacy and action to influence and advance Human Rights and the Status of Women. We do this at club, region, federation and national level. Our organisation works in partnership with UNESCO, WHO and UNICEF.
THIS YEAR our club will work together to raise money, share ideas and arrange fun social occasions.
* My Presidential charity is to support the Health of Women and The Education of Children of the hill regions of Nepal
* We will provide for the education of two sisters orphaned as a result of the Tsunami
* Work with the Ellesmere Port Air Quality Forum
* Suport the local Women's Refuge
* Provide visits and entertainment for the housebound
REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL
In addition to raising money for ur own club, we will also make contributions towards our International President's appeal, "Eduction for children in the Punjab" on Human Rights Day, 10th December.
Our Federation also has a Quadrennial Project. The next project was proposed by our club and supported by Region and will be launched at our International Conference in Glasgow in July.
This is "Project SIerra: A family and a future". Several of us will attend this Conference and the Federation Conference in Harrogate in October.
FRIENDSHIP: All members throughut the world are linked together in friendship. You are never alone when you travel as a Soroptimist. If you are relocated by your work, you quickly make friends in your new area. We also have a residential club in London.
Our club has a Friendship Links with SI Long Beach, California and Toulouse in France. Eight of our members go to Toulouse in May for a long weekend to celebrate their 70th birthday.
Many of us have made lasting friendships through our membership both at club level and throughout the network.
