Welcome to SI Dublin

Our President's Message

Welcome to the Soroptimist International Dublin Club, we were set up in 1938 and are part of Soroptimist International. The club retains its focus after 70 years, on its mission which remains the central core ideal of women working together, for others, in order to make a difference. As we phrase it:

~ individually we count, but together we can make a difference.

The Soroptimist Club in Dublin has changed like Irish society and faces fresh challenges. These challenges do create new opportunities for service and we hope to help meet them through a combination of adding new members and expanding our range of activities and programmes.

The membership ranges from active and retired members of the health care professions, education, finance and the arts. It reflects the same diverse nature that make up Soroptimist Clubs everywhere!

As members of a global organisation we are actively involved in supporting our sister members of The Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. This involves supporting the quadrennial project - the Independence Women Survivors of War. Soroptimists around the world helped thousands of women in Rwanda,Bosnia and Afghanistan to regain their independence through education and learning new skills.

The current quadrennial Project 2007-2011 is Project Sierra. Soroptimists will work to provide hope and homes for children living in extreme poverty in Sierra Leone. These children are neglected orphans. These separated institutionalised and abandoned little ones, are being helped many have HIV Aids, some were child soldiers and street urchins. The Dublin club looks forward to adding our support to this project.
