Welcome to SI Blackburn

Our President's Message

The Blackburn Club has just celebrated its 71st Charter anniversary - we are the oldest Club in the North West Region. We are a thriving Club with 38 members from many walks of life. Blackburn was formerly an industrial town, a mill town important for textiles and engineering. Today it is a changing multicultural community, constantly undergoing redevelopment and regeneration. Our members come from the town of Blackburn and the surrounding areas including the Ribble Valley.

We pride ourselves on our friendliness and willingness to consider all manner of projects. Locally, we are involved with service groups such as Blackburn & District Talking Newspaper, the East Lancashire Child Contact Centre, and the Asylum Seekers Family Support Group; we are involved in mentoring in schools; we award a shield to a Remarkable Pupil in a Primary school, and a shield for Service to a Secondary school pupil. We support Blackburn Festival of Speech, Music and Dance. We work with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and Lancashire Wildlife Trust to improve the environment in our local country park. We have supported many local charities including the East Lancashire Hospice. Internationally, we have supported SI Bamenda, Cameroon - one of our Friendship Links - in their project to train two young people as health workers, a midwife and a nurse, for an isolated rural region.

We try to be a part of a global voice for women in all we do and raise awareness and advocacy through our speaker meetings.
